María José Lamus Becerra is a consultant and attorney specializing in industrial property, commercial law, copyright, and new technologies, with over 30 years of experience in the development, application, and strategic defense of the industrial property system in Colombia and Latin America. In the public sector, she held senior positions at the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce, including Deputy Superintendent for Industrial Property (2020–2022), Director of Distinctive Signs (2011–2017), and Director of New Creations (2019), where she led key regulatory milestones such as the implementation of the Trademark Law Treaty (TLT), the adoption of the Madrid Protocol, and the development of the SIPI computer system for the modernization and digitalization of trademark procedures.
In the private sector, she led intellectual property departments at law firms for nearly ten years, advising domestic and international clients on strategies for the protection and leveraging of intangible assets.
She is an expert consultant for the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) on projects across Latin America, President of the Designs and Trade Dress Committee of the Inter-American Association of Intellectual Property (ASIPI), active member of the Colombian Association of Industrial Property, and a lecturer in intellectual property specialization programs at Universidad Sergio Arboleda and Universidad Externado de Colombia.
