The challenge
A country's Intellectual Property Office faced a growing challenge: serving citizens and businesses who needed guidance on trademarks, patents, designs, and software. In-person and telephone services were costly and difficult to scale, and many users were discouraged by legal information that was too technical or inaccessible. The Office sought a solution that would make access to IP more inclusive and straightforward, without compromising security or rigor.
The ThirdWish IP
Together with the Office, we designed a Virtual Intellectual Property Agent, accessible from the official website, available 24/7, and trained exclusively with the country's legislation and official documentation.
The agent offers:
- Guided initial orientation, with clear explanations tailored to different user profiles.
- Assistance with procedures, through interactive guides and an educational simulator to familiarize users with the processes.
- Explanatory legal module, which interprets laws in simple language and allows for practical comparisons (e.g., trademark vs. design).
All of this is supported by an LLM + RAG model hosted on state infrastructure, guaranteeing digital sovereignty and confidentiality.
The results
The Office managed to reduce the burden of repetitive queries on its staff and offer a more inclusive and efficient experience for citizens and businesses. The estimated development time was five months, and the project was consolidated as a key step in the Office's digital transformation process. It also laid the foundations for scaling the solution to other public bodies linked to innovation and intellectual property.
Final reflection
That Office became a regional pioneer by implementing a virtual IP assistant with an educational focus, accessible and 100% based on its legislation. The project strengthened the country's technological sovereignty and positioned the Office as a benchmark in the modernization of public intellectual property services.
